They have all of an hour to get up, shower, have breakfast and get ready before Atton is rushing off, yelling back at Will and Guppy about how they should start making tracks.

Five minutes later, they arrive in the hangar bay, and Atton starts looking around for their snowspeeders. He's a little miffed when he sees what they have instead.

Furry animals, about halfway between mammal and flightless bird, with reins and harnesses.

"I thought we were getting snowspeeders, not tauntauns," he protests.

The Jedi he's talking to shakes their head, sadly. "Snowspeeders are all broken."

Getting up quickly isn't a problem for a man who used to be on call. But tauntauns... Guppy tries to remember anything he can about riding animals.

"It's possible we could use some form of instruction manual."

Will just eyes them, "Any different from 'orses?"

"I'm sure they can't be too different. Guppy, if you ride behind Will, he probably has experience with riding fuzzy animals."

"Okay." Guppy says, wondering if he should introduce himself to the animal first to establish trust.

At least it's not a dog.

"Aye."

So Will pulls on his gloves and hauls himself up on the beast.

Atton clambers up onto another one, settling in and grabbing the reins.

"They're pretty docile. I think. Probably. Possibly."

Guppy looks up at the thing.

"Hey there." He pats the tauntaun gently, then climbs up.

He's ridden before, albeit rather a long time ago.

Will's just going to wait for Atton because he knows what he's doing, hopefully.

"Er."

Those are not the words of somebody in complete control, but he recovers it quickly.

"Let's go, then. S'not too far."

Tauntauns, it turns out, are fast. Pretty soon they're racing across the arctic wastes.

Guppy tries to go with the flow of the racing.

That is faster than Will was expecting too so he'll just be hanging on grimly.

"Are you both," Atton's voice gets lost, a bit, in the rushing wind. He pauses, then pitches his voice above it. "Are you both alright over there?!"

Guppy grips on tightly.

"Yes but I still have no idea how to control him, are we going the right way?"

Will's got the reins, "Um aye."

"Yeah. We just keep heading in this direction."

...I'm glad I already had my first child..

Guppy comes close to falling off, but recovers.

"Can 'old onto me, Guppy. Aye, that's good."

Straight is easy enough to manage.

"I just hope we know how t'stop them when we arrive."

Guppy opens his eyes a little wider at that, and holds tightly onto Will.

"Pullin' on the reins should 'elp, 'opefully."

"You'd be the expert." After all, horses are animals, and Atton presumes that Will's rode them before.

"Why didn't we ask when we picked them up?!" Guppy calls to Atton.

"Cause we wanted to be out o'there."

"Besides. They're so fuzzy."

Nodding with his head.

"I think that structure over there is what we're heading for."

Guppy feels his buttocks slipping off the animal, but another jolt manages to bounce him back on again.
