After about half an hour in the bar, Jaq limps upstairs to continue tending to his wounds there.

He settles down in the armchair in the corner, cleaning up the gash on his side and vaguely preparing himself to go "I'm fine!" if Lucifer turns up.

"Now who's fussing?" Lucifer demands. "I was just proving a point. Now shut up until you're not bleeding."

A little sulkily: "Well, maybe if y'didn't seem so angry ..."

"Of course I'm angry," he says, more gently (Jaq's wound is half-healed, now, and continuing to slowly fix itself). "Someone hurt you."

"Well, yeah, but I'm all right. Maybe in need of a bit of patching up, but okay."

"Not the point, Jaq."

"What is the point? I'm a soldier. In a war. Getting hurt is kind of a thing."

"Well, no. I don't like it either."

"Try not getting hurt next time, then," Lucifer advises. "You'll probably like that better."

(The banter - and the irritation - make exceeding cunning disguises for the fact that Jaq's hurt and he has no idea how to deal with this or make it not happen ever again.)

"You're very witty," Jaq says dryly, "even if you do have a stupid head."

Seriously: "You're always wrong."

Pause. Jaq looks down at his side. Then, a bit apologetically: "You should probably leave that. Not that I don't want it healed, but if it's too healed up when I go back I'm going to get a lot of awkward questions."

"That's okay, I'll beat you up before you leave. That should fix it."

Lucifer has a solution for everything!

Jaq shall demonstrate his skepticism through the medium of dragging Lucifer into a headlock.

"Could beat you up whenever I wanted!"

It is, for example, much more difficult to perform a headlock whilst being tickled. A lot. With magic.

"Nah, you couldn't," Jaq says, squirming and trying very hard to keep his grip. "You are small and weak, like a baby shrimp."

Lucifer wriggles out of the headlock.

"You are ugly and weak, like an aged walrus!"

"Lies. I am beautiful, like a dove." Beat. "If you're done with me, I'll go take that shower?"

Lucifer flaps a hand in dismissal.

"Okay. I'll see you soon, you hideous wretch, you," Jaq grins, kicking off his boots, shucking off his shirt, and wandering into the bathroom.

"Not if I see you first," Lucifer mutters.

Jaq, he guesses, is probably better sorting himself out from here, so he heads downstairs instead to get them both drinks and food.
