Jaq is sat upon a clifftop, staring outwards into the distance.

There was someone in the trees earlier, watching from afar, but he's gone now. Jaq doesn't suspect he'll come back soon.

"There are people looking for you," Jaq says, without answering Guppy's question. "Some of them followed you through, and they're using puppets to hide." Beat. "An' there's the Dark Man. He showed up last night, but he won't enter the village. He just stays at the edges."

"What should we do?" Guppy asks, trying to remember all of that. Sounds important.

Teja turns his head, astonished.

Those that would possess other men? Evil beings that followed them from Milliways?

A chill went down Kate's spine, and it wasn't from the cold air.

"Possessed people right? How many?"

"A dozen. They came from a space between places," frown. "Somewhere where there's nothing. Then they burrowed into people. You'll know them when you see them: They bleed from their eyes, noses, mouths and ears. I've seen them wandering around, but they're not interested in me."

Headtilt.

"The Dark Man isn't like them. He's alive. He hasn't attacked anyone, he's just watching from afar, at the moment."

"Who is the Dark Man? Why are they after us?"

Teja wondered whether the monsters were real, or only childish imagination, much like that which Atton would be prone to later in life.

Or metaphors?

People bleeding from their eyes and nostrils would scare any one, and make more people notice.

"Well we're not from around here. Neither are they. Maybe it's because we're not supposed to be here."

Guppy gets a withering look.
"If I knew his name, I'd use it."

"Then what identifies him as the dark man?"

"Why do you know they are after us?" Teja now breaks his silence.

"Shouldn't we be more wondering about to stop them?" Kate pointed out.

"Well they're not after me, and you're the next most interesting people here."

"How did they know we were here?"

Teja wonders whether Jac knows just how interesting he is: - having that rare gift of the Force.

"Tell us what you know, and we shall try and deal with them," Teja says.

Kate shrugged, "Maybe something happened when we arrived here. An energy signature or after-trace of what brought us here."

"I've already told you everything I know."

Guppy is quiet for a moment, then says.

"Jaq, you remember last night when you came to check if we were okay? Did you pick up a signal from us then?"

Teja looks at Guppy strangely. This must baffle the child!

Kate sighed, and rubbed a hand over her face, "Oh this is going to go over just great."

Pause.

Then: "I don't think 'signal' means what you think it means." Shrug. "Your smell changed, and your heartbeat got louder and faster."

"But you could still feel that, from a distance." Guppy says. "Is that what could have been used to trace us?"

If so, that's pretty bad...

"We *have* to figure out how to get away or stop them. They might be on their way here." Kate pointed out, her senses and stance going to battle alert. She didn't want those creatures being led to Jaq's family.
