Atton's found wooden swords for Guppy and Will (for Guppy, so that he can learn with them, for Will, so that he can help teach Guppy without cutting Guppy's sword up accidentally), and cleared a large space in the cargo bay.

"'Kay. Adjust your stance, slightly," Atton says to Guppy.

"Oh aye though dinna worry too much 'bout accuracy if will distract ye."

"Accuracy and precision are good, but remember that it's still very sharp, and people are flesh and bloody. If I," he hops to his feet, picking up his sheathed sword and miming a slash across Will's stomach. "Cut across Will's stomach, missing every artery or important organ there, I've still secured an eventual victory. He'll lose blood, the pain will hamper his movements. If he doesn't make a hasty retreat, his performance will diminish more and more, and I'll cause more wounds. If he does make a hasty retreat, but can't patch up his wounds, he'll be in trouble anyway."

Pause. Atton paces about, slightly. He mimes another slash, across Will's arm.

"If I make a cut across his arm, but don't hit anything important, I've still practically crippled one arm. His balance will suffer, and if it's his sword arm, he'll have trouble holding it. Another victory."

Turning and resting his sword on the ground, steepling his fingers over it.

"Arteries aren't the largest targets ever. You need to be as precise as possible, but you shouldn't be worrying about it enough to let that distract you."

"So just try to hit anything that's showing, because it's all bad?"

"Yeah."

Atton settles back down on the boxes.

"You two want to hit each other with wooden stuff now?"

"Oh aye, try an 'it me, Guppy."

Will settles into an easy defensive stance.

"Okay."

Guppy comes forward, swings the sword one way then back the other to aim for Will's side.

And Will hits him with the flat of the sword on his side,

"Left yerself open."

"Would I have just died?"

"Severely injured, at least."

"Oh aye an na able to fight. Use the length o'the blade to keep yerself safe."

Guppy tries to focus, and swings at Will again.

Will easily parries it then moves to strike at Guppy,

"Bit better, aye."

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy blocks, clumsily.

[will_scarlett]

And Will moves under the block to strike him again,

"'ave to be quicker."

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy reacts on instinct, and ends up kicking Will in the groin.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that."

Will doubles over and curses,

"Does work too."

"S'a perfectly valid move. Nobody says you can only use your sword."

Beat.

"Try not to do it to Will, though."

"I'm really sorry." Guppy says again, crouching next to Will. "I kind of panicked. Are you okay?"

"'urtin' but aye. Atton can take o'er for a bit."

Will hands over the wooden sword and limps to sit down.

Atton ruffles Will's hair as he passes.

"Okay. Try hitting me."

Guppy swings the sword.

Atton blocks, but doesn't strike back.

Guppy swings again, more quickly.

Atton blocks again, before flicking his sword about to twist them both around and push Guppy's sword to one side, with intent to send the sword flying away.

"Ow." Guppy wasn't expecting that, and he grabs his wrist as the sword flies out.
