Atton's currently in the galley, hair still damp and curling slightly from his shower (real water! This is a fancy ship, he feels), making nerfburgers. His sword is propped up against one of the chairs, in his line of sight.

"Has anyone ever studied the evolution of species in this world?" Guppy asks. "There's some very interesting physiology around here"

"I'm sure somebody has. It's a complex field, and one that's not without it's ... er ... sensitive points. There's the whole human to near-human spectrum, for a start, and nobody can really agree on how you define whether somebody is a human, or a near-human, a variety of humans that have evolved and adapted slightly, like the Echani."

"Are you familiar with evolution theory Will?" Guppy asks, suddenly aware that it might not have been in circulation by Will's time.

"It is confusing. Near-humans, and humans, and Duros, and near-Duros, and humanoid species that aren't humans, and hybrids, and so on."

"Nay, think might 'ave read o'it in one o'Kate's books but didna make sense."

"It's a theory about where people came from." Guppy says. "As opposed to the story of Creationism, the one that the Bible presents for example, evolution is the theory that humans used to be like apes, but gradually changed over time because individual variations between the apes meant that some were stronger or better adapted than others, so were more likely to have offspring with those adaptations. Does that make sense?"

"More like chimpanzees. There was a common ancestor which doesn't exist anymore, because it evolved into different creatures, like chimps, and apes, and humans. Like how Sand People and Jawa used to be the same species."

Atton has done research.

"Oh aye, might take a look at somethin' later but na sure, all so confusin'."

"Speaking of which, you guys should check out the storage rooms at some point, look for warm clothes. Ilum is an ice world - the Enclave there isn't too bad, but if we go outside, I don't want you two to freeze."

"Yeah, my beanie hat got sliced by a zombie." Guppy says. "Probably wouldn't have been strong enough anyway."

"Ice, snow and rocks of various descriptions. We should be wary when inside the Enclave, too - it's safe, but the catacombs that it's built in are something of a Force nexus. They can cause visions."
